After a tumultuous day of muck-flying and titanic tweeting battle-scarred party-bashers Shah Rukh Khan and Shrish Kunder called it a truce on Tuesday afternoon, courtesy Shrish's brother-in-law Sajid Khan and Shah Rukh's wife Gauri Khan.

Apparently Sajid and Gauri called for a meeting at Shah Rukh Khan's residence Mannat between the two warring parties. Over a hot meal and cool discussion, the acrimony was wiped clean.

Apparently Shah Rukh and Shirish have decided to start their rapport all over again.

Confirming the reconciliation at Mannat Sajid Khan said, "Yes, I felt terrible about the ugly turn that the whole affair took. Shah Rukh and Shirish had a fight, agreed. But the media didn't have to play it up to the point of making it on the front of national newspapers."

Getting sentimental Sajid Khan says, "Do you know when my sister Farah and Shirish got married there were only three witnesses. Me, Sajid Nadiadwala and Shah Rukh. We're family.And there're bound to be differences between family members. Yes, Gauri and I took the initiative.All of us met at Mannat over a meal.And it was all sorted out."

Adds Farah Khan, "I can't begin to tell you how relieved I am. This had turned really ugly. And before it got uglier my brother took matters into his hands.Full credit to Gauri for making the reconciliation happen.When my brother asked her where we should meet she said Mannat ,because she said it's Farah's home. I am so moved."

Farah says this is not only the end of the ugly spat between her husband and Shah Rukh, it is also a new beginning for her and Shah Rukh. "I really liked what he said. He made us promise to wipe out all the bitterness of the last two years and start afresh.I feel like a big burden is off my back."

It was a fight that had a long history to it. On Sunday night-Monday Morning at the Aurus restaurant in the suburbs of Mumbai, Sanjay Dutt hosted a party to celebrate the success of his Agneepath role and film.

Guests were having a ball when at around 4.30 am Shah Rukh Khan entered the venue straight after the Filmfare awards with three bodyguards. According to eyewitnesses he was apparently in an inebriated condition.

Soon, he headed towards filmmaker Shirish Kunder and roughed him up.

Says an eyewitness, "We didn't know what was happening. We saw SRK enter. Then we saw him head towards Shirish from behind the director. SRK pulled Shirish down to the ground by his long hair. We were all shocked. We had never seen SRK behave this way before. Before anyone could react Baba Dewan the owner of Aurus ran in and intervened. SRK told Dewan to keep out . Dewan said the place belonged to him and he must intervene. The fight would've been prolonged had Sanjay Dutt not pulled SRK away from the ugly scene."

The shell-shocked Kunder apparently left immediately. We tried to probe the cause for Shah Rukh's provocation.

Says a source close to Kunder, "Shah Rukh was smarting since Kunder made a sarcastic comment on SRK's Ra.1 when it released.But the immediate provocation was apparently a comment that Kunder made about SRK and Priyanka Chopra at the party that SRK overheard.But that is hogwash. Kunder didn't say anything about Priyanka. Why would he? Everyone was there to celebrate a success, not to create ugliness. "

Kunder and Shah Rukh have a history, of course. Kunder's wife Farah Khan was one of Shah Rukh's closest friends. They fell out a year back. Kunder, we believe, faced the brunt of SRK's pent-up wrath at Dutt's party.

Farah who was shooting all night for Bela Sehgal's Shirin Farhah Ki Nikal Padi got to know of the fight only when she returned home in the morning.

Shocked and hurt Farah says, "Shah Rukh has always told me that physical abuse is the worst way to sort out a problem,and that it means the person who's hitting has either a personal or professional crisis going on.It saddens me to see him doing the same."

A theory doing the rounds is that Sanjay Dutt too joined Shah Rukh to bash up Shirish Kunder.

Rubbishing this rumour Dutt told me, "I didn't join in the fight. I sorted out the fight between Shah Rukh and Kunder."

Salman Khan to free Jail Inmates

Dabangg Bodyguard Salman Khan is ready to pay the fine on behalf of about 400 inmates who are languishing in jail despite completing their term.

Salman's charitable organisation Being Human has written to jail authorities offering to help inmates, who have served their sentence but are still locked up because they cannot pay their fine due to poverty or some other reason.

Jail authorities have sent the letter to the legal section. Following their clearance a no objection certificate will be sought from the administration.

With their permission, the 'Bodyguard' star's foundation will submit about Rs 40 lakhs thereby freeing approximately 400 inmates from jails in the state.

"In about 63 jails in UP there are 400 such inmates who have completed their jail term but are still inside because they cannot pay fine due to financial problems," Vijay Kumar Gupta, IG Jail (UP), told PTI Bhasha.

When a convict is sentenced for a crime he is asked to pay a certain fine along with the jail term. If he is unable to pay the fine the prisoner may have to serve an additional term.

Salman himself has been involved in a few legal troubles. In 2002, the 46-year-old actor was arrested for rash and negligent driving after his car ran into a Mumbai bakery. Charges of culpable homicide were laid against him, but later dropped and he was found not guilty.

In 2006, Salman was sentenced to one year in prison for hunting a Chinkara but was granted bail after spending three days in prison. Check your EPF Balance online!

Dismissing any similarities with fictional spy agent James Bond, Bollywood actor-producer Saif Ali Khan says his character in " Agent Vinod" is totally desi.

The much-awaited action-spy film, with Saif and his real life lady love Kareena Kapoor, is ready for release. And comparisons with the "James Bond" series are inevitable, says Saif.

"Any audience who comes to see the film will think that we have done an Indian James Bond. This is a very stupid thing to do because firstly, James Bond is a completely English character," he told reporters on the sidelines of the launch of the first poster of the movie.

"From the first scene of the film, you will realise that this is an Indian hero who is very different to the Bond character because we didn't want to make a copy of the Bond film," added Saif.

However, if "Agent Vinod" turns out to be a box office success, Saif might consider making sequels to it, a la the "James Bond" series, of which 22 films have been made so far. The 23rd is in the process of being made.

"If the film does well, it depends on the audience. If the picture becomes popular, then of course we will look forward to making a series," said Saif.

Shimla snowy peaks

Shimla's popular tourist resorts like Narkanda and Kufri are wrapped up in a blanket of white, with snowfall turning the hill stations more picturesque and magnetic for holidaymakers.

Hospitality industry representatives say the timely onset of Snowfall in Shimla is a good indication of bountiful business ahead. They said last week's snow has suddenly increased the tourist footfall.

Director of meteorological office Manmohan Singh said that though snowfall continued to elude state capital Shimla, its nearby hills had moderate snow. The minimum temperature in most of the places that saw snow last week stayed close to sub-zero, the Met office said here Sunday.

Narkanda, the heart of the apple belt some 65 km from here, experienced mild spells of snow for two days.

Singh said the snowy landscape in Narkanda is expected to remain three to four days.

"The western disturbances have withdrawn from the region but the temperature came down massively. There are chances of more snowfall ahead," he added.

The popular tourist resort Manali has plenty of snow. For the second consecutive day, Manali and the hills overlooking it experienced mild to moderate spells of snow.

"This weekend Manali and its nearby areas got a record footfall of over 30,000 tourists. If the snow continues this week, the tourist arrival would multiply well before New Year's Eve," Manali District Tourism Officer Balbir Thakur said.

M.C. Thakur, Manali Hoteliers Association vice president, said: "Some points near Manali have plenty of snow where the tourists are enjoying skiing and snow scooter rides."

He said after Saturday's snowfall the arrival of the tourists, mainly from Gujarat and Maharashtra, has suddenly picked up.

"Now the tourists have been enquiring about the possibility of snowfall on Christmas and New Year's Eve," Thakur added.

The Rohtang Pass, located at an altitude of 13,050 feet and 51 km from Manali, has been closed for tourists after snowfall.

Tourists bound for the Rohtang Pass are not allowed to move beyond Gulaba, 19 km from Manali.

Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corp (HPTDC) general manager Yogesh Behl said hotels in Shimla, Narkanda, Manali, Dalhousie, Dharamsala, Palampur and Sangla in Kinnaur district are doing good business.

From Shimla's Historic Ridge, one can see the peaks wrapped in a thick white blanket of snow.

Likewise, the mighty Dhauladhar peaks overlooking Dharamsala and Palampur in Kangra district have got fresh snow.

Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district was the coldest place in the state Sunday with a low of 7.3 degrees Celsius below the freezing point, while it was minus 1.2 degrees in Kalpa, minus 2 degrees in Manali, 4.7 in Shimla and 5.2 in Dharamsala.

Himachal Pradesh, which is highly dependent on tourism, attracted 13,298,748 tourists, including 454,851 foreigners, last year.
